FAQS

Will I have to pay any taxes or duties on my order?

It depends on your country:

  • US customers: All orders ship Delivered Duty Paid (DDP) via DHL Express. This means all import tariffs and customs fees are prepaid, so you won’t pay anything extra on delivery. Prices for US customers have been adjusted to include all US tariff and duties.
  • All other countries: Orders ship Delivered Duty Unpaid (DDU). This means import taxes and duties are your responsibility, as set by your country’s customs authority. Charges may include VAT, GST, or other import taxes and vary by destination.
  • Why DDP is only for the US: The US system allows DHL Express to handle all duties and taxes without requiring us to interact directly with US Customs, making DDP simple to offer. In every other country, fulfilling DDP would require us to file and pay import taxes directly with each country’s customs authorities, which is complex, resource-intensive, and legally complicated, especially for a 2-person team like ours.

To help you plan, we provide country-specific tax and duty estimates on the cart page when items are in your cart. These are estimates only; final charges are set by your local courier or customs authority.

Please note: Australian export regulations require us to declare the full value of your order on customs invoices. We cannot declare a lower value or mark shipments as gifts to reduce duties or taxes.

How long will it take to make and deliver my gear?

We are a made-to-order business.
This means we start hand-making your gear once you have placed an order.

There is a manufacturing time and delivery time estimator on our product pages. These dates are our best estimation. They are not a guarantee.

Manufacturing time. The bit we have some control over.
Our manufacturing times are updated daily. The time will vary depending on the number of outstanding orders and other work commitments.
If your gear is finished early, we will ship it early. If early delivery could be a problem (i.e. you’ll be away), let us know.
If we expect to take longer we will contact you to explain why and offer other options.

Delivery time. The bit we have no control over.
This is a rough estimate that covers both domestic and international orders.
Australian Express Post may be a bit quicker, and rural international deliveries may take a bit longer.
Once we have shipped your gear, the most accurate delivery date will be available from the courier.
If your parcel has not been delivered by the expected date, contact both us and the courier in your area to lodge an inquiry.

If you need your gear before a particular date, "Leave a note with your order" on the Cart page or e-mail us the details and we will try our best.

Can I add to my order after I've checked out?

If you want to add to a completed order you can either place a new order and we will refund you the shipping cost, or contact us for a discount code so you don't have to pay the shipping charge twice.
E-mail: info@armyofmen.com

Do you offer discreet shipping?

Yes.

All international deliveries are sent by DHL Express and arrive in plain brown boxes, with standard DHL documentation on the outside.
Our company name will be shortened to "A.O.M" and the description of the contents will be, "Articles of leather fashion accessories" or similar.
Descriptions of individual items will not appear on the outside of the package.

Australian orders are handled by Australia Post with the same discretion.

Why do [insert colour] leather items look different in photos?

All our [insert colour] leather comes from the same trusted tanneries and has been remarkably consistent over the years. Any variation you see is due to changes in lighting and photography conditions across many different shoots—not the leather itself.

How accurate are your colours displayed online?

We do our best, but variations in screen displays mean we cannot guarantee the colour you see will be the exact colour you receive.
If you aren't happy we have an easy RETURNS & EXCHANGES policy.

Do you have a showroom?

Not at this stage.
We are an online business based in Sydney, Australia.
Everything is handmade to order, so even if you visited our workshop you'd probably not find anything to try on.

Our only retail stockist, where you can browse our products in-person is GEAR Berlin, in Berlin, Germany.

Once a year we have a Samples and Seconds Sale at Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Fair Day, usually late February.
Keep your eyes on our social pages.

How do I choose my size?

Sizing standards vary a lot, so we highly recommend you invest in a tape measure and get a friend to help if you’re unsure.
Our SIZE CHARTS have all the info.
If you fall outside our size range, we may still be able to make you what you want.

What if I have a nickel allergy?

If you have a nickel allergy or sensitivity, it's important to understand the materials used in our hardware before purchasing.

The only parts of our products that sit directly against the skin are the internal components of the snaps and rivets. These are made from black oxide-coated brass or steel and are the same across all hardware options. These materials are not intended to contain nickel, however trace amounts may still be present.

The visible hardware, such as O-rings and the outer caps of snaps and rivets, is available in either stainless steel or black finished metal. Black hardware may use black oxide coating, matte black PVD coating, or powder coating depending on the component. The base metals are either brass or steel.

These visible components are mostly external and generally do not remain in prolonged direct contact with the skin.

Stainless steel hardware contains nickel as part of the alloy. Black finished hardware may reduce overall nickel exposure on external components, however trace amounts of nickel may be present in any hardware option and individual sensitivities can vary.

Based on the information above, customers with nickel sensitivities should make their own assessment as to whether the materials are suitable for their needs.

Can you do custom work?

We don't offer fully custom design work.

However, we can customise elements of our existing range, including:

  • Leather colours
  • Thread colours
  • Hardware finishes

Examples of available customisations include:

  • Pup ears and muzzle panels in different leather colour combinations, e.g. ears one colour and muzzle another.
  • Products made in the style of another range, e.g. a Universal X Harness with the edging and double stitching used on our Combat Harnesses.
  • Multiple colours within the same product, e.g. a Bulldog Harness with one colour on the left side and another on the right.
  • Stainless Steel hardware instead of black hardware on every Colour product.

If you have a customisation request, just email us at info@armyofmen.com

How do I look after my gear?

Leather is a natural product, and keeping it in good condition requires proper care and storage.

• Wipe with a damp cloth.
• Hang to dry.
• Use leather conditioner.
• Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place.

For more detailed information check out our PRODUCT CARE page.

What if I damage my gear?

Since we make everything in-house, we are usually able to repair it as well.
